Lineworker - Internal/External

Brief Description

Supplement questionnaire, official DMV printout, and proof of education are required at the time of application.

This is the entry level classification in the Lineworker series. Incumbents will assist with inspections, testing, routine maintenance and repair on the light rail signal system, traction power substations and electrical distribution system in a training capacity. Employees in this classification are expected to work a variety of shift hours, including early mornings, nights and weekends.

  
Essential Functions

Assists other Lineworker classifications in performing inspections, testing, diagnostic analysis and maintenance of the light rail traction power substations, electrical distribution system, signal system, traffic warning devices, highway grade crossings, power switch and electric lock mechanisms; receives and stocks inventory of parts and equipment in workshop; maintains cleanliness of the workshop and organizes tools and equipment; performs routine preventative maintenance of substation air conditioning units. Perform duties such as a switch tender or flagperson for the protection of the public, employees and trains during emergencies and rerouting of trains; operates a variety of non-revenue District vehicles including construction and heavy equipment vehicles. Performs other related duties as assigned.

  
Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent and successful completion of DC and AC Theory and Circuit Fundamentals coursework (5 units total) from an accredited post-secondary educational institution.

Experience: One (1) year of full time work experience performing basic electrical, electronic and/or electro/mechanical repairs and maintenance OR one (1) year of full time work experience in a District IBEW Bargaining Unit position.

Special Requirements, Licenses and/or Certifications: Must possess a valid Driver’s License at time of application and have the ability to obtain a Class A California Driver’s permit with endorsement(s) prior to the start of employment and the ability to obtain a Class A California Driver’s License with endorsement(s) within 90 days of the start of employment. Must have satisfactory driving record. Must comply with drug and alcohol testing provisions for safety-sensitive employees as required by the FTA, Department of Transportation (49 CFR, Parts 40 and 655), and must pass the Ishihara Eye Test (color acuity). After employment, candidates are required to obtain tools for the Lineworker position by the end of the probationary period.

All employees in the entry level Lineworker job classification are required to complete the District’s four (4) year training program and move into the Journey Lineworker job classification.

Candidates must submit a current and official DMV printout, dated September 24, 2015, or thereafter, at time of application in order to be considered. Only official DMV printouts issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles are acceptable. Online DMV printout will not be accepted.

Proof of required education beyond high school, such as college transcripts, diplomas, and/or certificates must be submitted at the time of application.
