Contractors for the Sacramento Regional Transit District (RT) Blue Line to Cosumnes River College (CRC) light rail extension project will set columns and beams for the CRC pedestrian bridge on Thursday, June 25 through Saturday, June 27, 2015.
The pedestrian bridge will connect the new Cosumnes River College light rail station to the existing on-campus parking garage. A large hydraulic crane – more than 50 feet long and 10 feet wide with a boom working range of 197 feet – will be set up at the CRC east entrance (at Bruceville Road), which will be closed during this process.
The bridge deck will be constructed on-site later this month. All of the bridge pieces are prestressed concrete, except for the columns, which are reinforced concrete. The pier columns are approximately 15 feet wide, 18 feet high and two feet thick. Each weigh up to 54,000 pounds.
The $270 million Blue Line to CRC project, scheduled to open in September 2015, will extend light rail 4.3 miles south from the Meadowview Station to the new Cosumnes River College Station.
