The Sacramento Metro Chamber and the Sacramento Regional Transit District (RT) will host the 8th annual State of RT Breakfast on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Sacramento (1209 L Street).
The State of RT Breakfast event provides an annual forum to discuss the Sacramento region's transit priorities. Mike Wiley, RT General Manager/CEO, will highlight RT’s light rail service plan for events at the new Golden 1 Center and RT’s systemwide improvement initiative focused on security and cleanliness.
As part of the systemwide improvement initiative, RT will announce a mutual agreement with the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local Division 256, to address the issue of fare evasion. A new job classification of Transit Agent was developed to conduct fare enforcement on the light rail system. With a Transit Agent on every light rail train, fare compliance is expected to increase and nuisance behavior is expected to decrease. The new job classification and authorization for 30 Transit Agent positions will be presented to the RT board of directors for approval on March 14.
The 2016 TransitAction Awards recipients will be honored at the event. The annual awards program recognizes models of excellence that have made a significant and positive impact to public transit in the Sacramento region.
This year's TransitAction Awards recipients are:
• Elected Official of the Year – Congresswoman Doris Matsui
• Individual/Transit Advocate of the Year – Mike McKeever
• Transit Oriented Development of the Year – Folsom Lake College – Rancho Cordova Center
• Organization/Agency of the Year – City of Citrus Heights
• Business of the Year – Passport
