Opening Remarks:
Welcome to the March 2026 edition of Transit Talk with me, SacRT General Manager/CEO Henry Li. Thank you for joining us this month. We have several important updates to share, from upcoming construction work on the Blue Line to new opportunities for public engagement as we plan for SacRT’s future.

I want to begin with a notification about scheduled Blue Line service disruptions taking place March 14–31, 2026. These temporary impacts are necessary to support progress on major capital projects, including construction of the future Dos Rios Station and work tied to our Light Rail Modernization Project. We understand how important reliability is to our riders, so bus bridges will be in place whenever train service is interrupted. I encourage everyone to check sacrt.com/BlueLine regularly for updates, as weather and field conditions may affect project dates.

While construction moves forward, we are also inviting the community to help shape several major planning efforts. First, SacRT has released its 2026 Title VI Program update and is seeking public comment through Monday, March 30, 2026. This federally required program supports our commitment to equity, transparency, and fair access in transit service. Riders can review the full update and provide feedback at sacrt.com/planning/TitleVI.

We are also excited to continue working on the Safe Routes to Transit Plan, a countywide initiative to improve safety and accessibility for people walking, biking, and rolling to transit stops and stations. Your input will guide where improvements are most needed. Public workshops will continue this month—both virtual and in-person—across Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, and Folsom. Full details and registration information are available at sacrt.com/SafeRoutes.

Another project entering a key public review phase is the Meadowview Station Transit-Oriented Communities Study. After extensive collaboration with south Sacramento residents, the draft study is now available for review through Saturday, March 21, 2026. This work explores development opportunities that support affordable housing and smart growth while strengthening connections to the Meadowview Station. Community feedback remains essential, and the draft can be viewed at sacrt.com/TOC.

Looking even further ahead, we are actively planning for the future of SacRT service through SacRT 2050, our longrange planning initiative. We want to hear from you about what’s working, what isn’t, and what improvements you’d like to see. By completing our short online survey by Sunday, March 15, 2026, you’ll receive a free daily pass through the Transit Connect app once the survey closes. Learn more at sacrt.com/SacRT2050.

In addition to longrange improvements, we’re also advancing nearterm rider comfort through our HeatResilient Bus Shelter Initiative. Later this month, we will launch a public survey seeking rider feedback on potential shelter designs and cooling features. Your input will help us establish a new standard for heat safety at bus stops. Please check sacrt.com/NewShelters for updates.

March also gives us the opportunity to celebrate the people who make our system run every day. Wednesday, March 18, 2026, is Transit Employee Appreciation Day. I want to personally encourage everyone to take a moment to thank your bus or train operator—or any SacRT frontline employee you encounter. Riders can also submit messages at sacrt.com/ThankYou, write a note at our Customer Service Center, or share appreciation using #SacRTThankYou on social media. Our employees take great pride in serving this community, and your gratitude means a great deal to them.

As a reminder, we are continuing our planned transition from the ZipPass app to the new Transit Connect app. Riders may use remaining ZipPass tickets through Thursday, April 30, 2026, after which all mobile fare payments must be made in Transit Connect. Los Rios students will continue using ZipPass through the spring semester, and Connect Card users will transition later this year. More information is available at sacrt.com/TransitConnect.

Thank you again for joining us for the March Transit Talk. I look forward to your questions and feedback today. Together, we are building a safer, more connected, and more innovative transit system for our region.

Folsom, CA:  I feel SacRT needs to realign the F10 with trains that arrive at the :19 mark at Historic Folsom. The F10 alligns with Iron Point pretty well for the most part, but Historic Folsom buses have no headway with incoming trains that are often a few mins late, even on weekends. SacRT should have F10 buses leave Historic Folsom at the :24 mark in my opinion.

Reply:  Thanks for your suggestion. We are actually looking closely at the F10 timetable right now. There have been some additional issues on that route, for example, due to heavy ridership from Folsom High School, we have had to use 40-foot buses, but they cannot make the normal turns near Historic Folsom station. So we are working with our partners at the City of Folsom on some potential options that could work for a full-size bus, which might also reduce some of the time we spend circulating the area in Historic Folsom. We will continue to time around Iron Point, and it can be hard to have perfect timing with more than one location on a route, but we're hopeful that we can work out something that will actually be a little better at Historic Folsom as well.

Folsom, CA:  Why are the S700 low floor trains so dirty on the outside after only a year and a half of service? It seems like SacRT doesn't clean them that well.

Reply:  The Light Rail Vehicle car wash was replaced and subsequently taken out of service while we waited for replacement parts. The delay was due to global supply chain issues affecting the parts needed to bring the system back online. Those parts arrived two weeks ago, and the car wash was repaired and returned to service last week. Passengers should begin to see noticeable improvements in exterior cleanliness moving forward.

Folsom, CA:  What happened to light rail cars 407 and 422? I haven't seen them in a long while.

Reply:  Cars 407 and 422, were involved in separate accidents that resulted in body damage. They are currently undergoing repairs.

Sacramento, CA:  My feedback on the Meadowview TOD study is that a pedestrian bridge to connect the neighborhood that is east of the train tracks would be helpful. Similar to what was built to connect City College station with Crocker Village. And there need to be more regular events, like weekly popups, live music performances, movie nights, etc. If things are scheduled at regular intervals either on weeknights or during the day on Saturday/Sunday besides the seasonal farmers market it will encourage more people to check a schedule and feel more engaged. I would respond to the survey but it would be nice not to have to send an email - some people prefer to give feedback anonymously.

Reply:  Thank you for looking at our Meadowview TOD study and providing your feedback. We are excited to envision the area in the future. We are taking public comment through March 21st so I encourage everyone to view the study and provide some feedback. https://www.sacrt.com/planning/meadowviewtoc/

Sacramento, CA:  As a resident of Old North Sac, I am concerned about the potential impact of the Blue Line service disruptions from March 16 to March 31. With the most recent bus bridges on the Gold Line, coordination of the bus bridge (i.e. having a bus ready to pick up passengers when the inbound train arrives, and having a train ready to pick up arriving bus bridge passengers on the other end) has been a challenge. This is a neighborhood where fewer people have alternative means of transportation if things break down compared to, say, the East Sac stations on the Gold Line. I am especially concerned on the March 27-31 part of the service disruptions where it says a shuttle bus won't be available at Royal Oaks station (my closest station) and we should simply "walk to Arden/Del Paso station instead" to board. That's an extra 0.5 miles on a busy street with a narrow sidewalk (Arden Way). I would encourage reconsidering if possible. Maybe it would be operationally smoother if there was a consistent bus bridge between Marconi/Arcade and downtown Sacramento instead of between just a few North Sac stations only. It could provide a more predictable commuter experience.

Reply:  The service disruption between March 16 and March 31 is required so our engineering and construction teams can complete work related to the Blue Line Low-Floor Platform Conversion Project. This project will allow SacRT to operate our new low-floor light rail trains and improve accessibility by providing low floor boarding for passengers. During portions of this work, construction activities will fully occupy the Royal Oaks station area and surrounding trackway. Because of the equipment, work zones, and safety clearances required for the project, the station cannot safely accommodate shuttle buses or passenger loading during that time. For this reason, Royal Oaks Station must be temporarily closed from March 27 through March 31, and riders will need to use Arden/Del Paso Station. We understand that the additional walk along Arden Way may be inconvenient, and we appreciate you bringing that concern to our attention. When planning bus bridges, we evaluate where buses can safely stage, load passengers, and move efficiently without creating additional traffic or safety issues. In this case, Arden/Del Paso Station provides the closest location where buses can safely and reliably serve riders during the construction period. Your comments regarding bus bridge coordination are also important. Our operations team continues to review recent service disruptions and is working to improve coordination between buses and trains so transfers are more predictable for riders. We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback and thank you for your patience while we complete these necessary improvements to the Blue Line.

Sacramento, CA:  I am curious as to how the consstruction on your new maintenance facility is going. I am especially excited about the hydrogen fuel technology. What a groundbreaking opportunity for the region!

Reply:  Thank you for asking. The McClellan Hydrogen Hub recently received environmental clearance. We are currently compiling a design RFP and hope to have it completed by Summer 2027. Ground-breaking is tentatively scheduled for Fall 2027; project construction is expected to be complete by end of 2028.

Sacramento, CA:  With the Republic FC season starting up again, is there any chance SacRT could add 1-2 more trips on bus routes 67 and 68 on Saturday evenings? When the match starts at 7pm it works to take transit to the match, but by the time it's over, the last bus has already passed. Maybe RT could pursue a partnership with Republic FC like you've had with the Kings before.

Reply:  We are excited for the upcoming Republic FC season. Staff will be at the first few home games surveying fans to better understand their transportation needs. We have also been in coordination with the Republic and the City of Sacramento about service to their new stadium in the Railyards. The new light rail station at 7th and Railyards should be complete later this year and we are excited to transport fans to future games.

Sacramento, CA:  I am working on a student project involving SacRT bus ridership information. I am wondering - does SacRT no longer publish route-level ridership information about its bus network? Is SacRT able to provide this information on request?

Reply:  This information is available...please contact our Sr. Community Relations Officer at gfishman@sacrt.com and he can help connect you to it.

Sacramento, CA:  When will SacRT finish the fenced off area at the bottom of the west (southbound bus stops) staircase at Watt/I-80?

Reply:  The fencing is part of a larger landscaping project--which is of course part of the overall upgrades at the Watt andI-80 station. The landscaping is due to be completed in June of this year.

Carmichael, CA:  The 23 Sunrise is constantly late, up to 10 minutes late no matter the time of day, because of how late it is, it is very hard to catch connecting buses. Is there anything being done about this?

Reply:  Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We understand how important it is for routes to run on time, especially when passengers are trying to make connections to other buses or trains. We will review the performance of Route 23 Sunrise to better understand what may be causing the delays and determine if adjustments are needed. We appreciate you sharing this feedback, as it helps us identify areas where service may need improvement.

rancho cordova , CA:  what is the current estimated retirement date for the U2A trains?

Reply:  We have currently taken the UTDC cars out of service and we are working on decomissioning them.

Sac, CA:  Do we have an update on when the 7th street railyards detour and Township 7 Greenline station closure will end?

Reply:  Work on the station is currently being completed and additional roadway work is being done. We anticipate reopening the Green Line later this year.
