Essential Functions
Under general direction, perform architectural design and scope of work for buildings, station and platform features, signage, handicap access, sidewalk and paving treatments and passenger fixed facility design; perform space planning and interior design elements and finishes; review and evaluate designs prepared by agencies, consultants and staff engineers to ensure adequacy, completeness, economy and compliance with design criteria, design standards, ADA requirements and maintainability; assist in the interpretation of architectural design standards established by local jurisdictions; prepare, review and evaluate contract technical specifications and bid documents; analyze field data, prepare technical reports and establish construction program requirements for RT buildings, structures and new facilities; suggest design changes or improvements as necessary; conduct periodic on-site observation of work during construction to monitor compliance with plans; maintain a variety of records, reports, plans and files on assigned work; prepare technical reports and correspondence; prepare sketches, preliminary drawings, schematic designs, and construction documents; coordinate, monitor and review work of contractors and consultants; and perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities
Required Knowledge of:
- Theories, principles and practices of architecture and design.
- Methods, materials and techniques used in the construction of buildings and structures.
- Fundamentals of structural, mechanical, electrical and civil engineering as they relate to architectural design.
- Preparation, monitoring and updating of schedules and budgets.
- Regulations and codes pertaining to the design and construction of facilities.
Required Ability to:
- Perform complex architectural work.
- Analyze and conceptualize architectural designs.
- Prepare architectural schematics, drawings, specifications and cost estimates.
- Monitor and evaluate the work of design consultants and construction contractors.
- Use computer-aided architectural and drafting tools and products.
- Manage a project from inception to culmination.
- Prepare technical reports and correspondence.
- Review and check the preparation of architectural plans and studies.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work, and travel to offsite work locations within a reasonable period of time.
Minimum Qualifications — Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Required Prior Experience:
Three years of experience in professional architectural work. Experience with transportation facilities design, especially rail transit, preferred.
Required Prior Education:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture (or closely related field).
Special Requirements:
Possession of a Certification of Registration as a professional Architect in the State of California. Possession of a valid California Class C Driver’s License.
