Job Summary
This classification is primarily responsible for the supervision of Transportation Supervisors assigned to the Bus Transportation Department and the coordination of daily activities for transportation field services.

Essential Functions
Under general direction, supervises the daily work assignments of Transportation Supervisors and Coach Operators to ensure the smooth operation of schedules and runs. Monitors the group supervisor program. Determines the supervisors schedule to ensure proper staffing level. Reviews the processing of suggestions, complaints, and emergency actions and follows up on unresolved issues. Prepares a variety of written materials. Enforces departmental policies and procedures, and employee attendance. Conducts investigative, pre-disciplinary, and grievance hearings. Issues operational instructions to personnel. Oversees preparation of extra board operators work assignment and reviews mis-assignment of work schedules and runs. Serves as liaison with union officials. Issues citations for fare and other ordinance violations.
Assists the Transportation Manager and Transportation Superintendent with the general office administration of transportation related functions. Assists with interviewing and training new employees. Assists with the review and correction of payroll records and reports. Performs other duties as assigned.

Provide guidance and motivation for supervisory staff.
Read, interpret and apply provisions of labor contract agreements, safety regulations, and
government codes and regulations pertaining to bus operations.
Operate District vehicles, radio communications equipment, and computers.
Apply independent judgement and initiative in developing solutions to problems.
Interact professionally with various levels of District staff and outside representatives.
Write legible and detailed reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
Perform basic mathematical calculations.
Maintain system schedules and resolve operational problems.
Qualify for PC 832 (Special Police Officer) and PC 12405.7 (tear gas).
Obtain and maintain a valid Class B California driver?s license with passenger and air
brake endorsement and current medical certificate.
Minimum Qualifications — Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
High School diploma and two years of completed undergraduate college coursework. Three years of supervisory work experience in a transportation service related industry. May substitute an equivalent combination of training and experience working within the transit industry for the completed undergraduate college course work, on a year for year basis.
