Job Summary
Under general supervision, employees in this position will perform daily enforcement of applicable transit related laws and ordinances. Employees may also perform other safety and/or security functions, as the District requires.

Essential Functions
On a daily basis, employees will assess and resolve situations that may require specific resources or special needs. Communicate by operating radio equipment, using specific language and procedures. Enforce fare evasion and other public ordinance violations to maintain compliance with the District fare system, rules and procedures. Address customer concerns regarding quality of life issues. Work in cooperation with Police Services and local law enforcement agencies to take appropriate legal action. Provide general security to District passengers, vehicles, facilities, wayside, fare vending machines, and parking lots. Act as a public relations representative by providing passenger information and answering questions concerning system rules, schedules, and fares. Write detailed reports regarding incidents and accidents.
Other Job Functions: Assist the elderly, disabled, and large groups to load and unload light rail vehicles. Attend court, which may be required as a result of a citation or other job-related condition. Assist rerouting of passengers and operators during emergency or unusual circumstances. Assist other District employees during system breakdown. Assist with various administrative tasks including scheduling, processing citations, and training. Participate in presenting information for community outreach programs.

Physical and Mental Requirements:
Work is performed utilizing various District vehicles including, but not limited to: Light Rail Vehicles, Buses, and Bicycles. Diverse assignments may involve several hours of standing and exposure to varying weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent must be able to frequently:
- Climb in and out of LRV's, balance on moving vehicles and reach with hands and arms.
- Be able to handle objects without restrictions and lift or move up to 50 pounds.
- Work environment has regular exposure to vibrations, loud noise and unstable walking surfaces.
- Occasional exposure to fumes and airborne particles.
- Necessary aptitudes include understanding instructions, reason and make good judgements, verbal aptitude, problem solving, initiative, memory and concentration.
- Patience and persuasiveness are necessary when interacting with other people.
- The nature of the work may have frequent interruptions.
- Varied work schedules and flexible days off may be required.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of public relations.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Correct use of English language including sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

- Qualify for and successfully complete PC 832 (Special Police Officer Training) and PC 12405.7 (Tear Gas Training).
- Satisfactorily complete Transit Officer Training.
Minimum Qualifications — Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
High school graduate or equivalent. Two years experience working with the public (transportation related preferred). Good performance and attendance record required.
