Job Summary
This advanced journey level classification is primarily responsible for performing specialized professional and technical duties in the following areas: Business Function Identification and Definition; Configuration and Modification in Complex Modules within the Enterprise Resource Management System (ERM System); Maintains Expertise in Functional Area; Oversees System Fixes, Changes, and Upgrades; Assists, Trains, and Develops End-Users; and, Supervisory/ Administrative. Work mainly involves the gathering and interpretation of data dealing with complex problems and unexpected situations, including making recommendations.
Supervision
Supervision Received: This class works under direction, wherein the employee receives general instructions regarding the scope and approach to projects or assignments, but procedures and techniques are left to the discretion of the employee.
Supervision Exercised: This class may provide direct and/or indirect supervision to lower level personnel; however, this supervisory responsibility is not the primary purpose of the class.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Enterprise resource management systems (ERM systems) are integrated information systems that utilize expertise in a business field and information technology to solve operational problems. Incumbents combine business-planning expertise in finance, materials management, and/or human resources with information technology to analyze and translate departments’ business requirements into system deployments. The primary ERM system modules are finance, materials management, and human resources.
This class is distinguished from other professional classes such as Administrative Analyst, Human Resources Analyst, and Accountant by the responsibility for the assignment of one or more complex SAP business modules which includes developing and applying business requirements for SAP; testing SAP system solutions for acceptance; developing District-wide SAP training information; and, troubleshooting and identifying solutions for complex errors and problems. The class is only to be used for positions that perform the above activities for more than 50% of the time.
Essential Functions
A. Business Function Identification and Definition
Duties may include:
Defines and documents customer business functions and processes. Consults with functional unit management and personnel to identify, define, and document business needs and objectives, current operational procedures, problems, input and output requirements, and levels of systems access.
B. Configuration and Modification in Complex Modules within the Enterprise Resource Management System (ERM system)
Duties may include:
Performs configuration, modification, and testing activities in the system. Executes system integration testing including performing the tests and making changes in configurations to resolve errors. Responds to reports of operational problems and client requests for assistance. Provides operational support. Collects and reviews defect reports and change requests.
C. Maintains Expertise in Functional Area
Duties may include:
Reads and keeps up-to-date on business functional areas such as Accounting/Finance, Human Resources, and Materials Management in order to understand system customer requirements and system feasibility. Identifies opportunities for improving business processes through information systems.
D. Oversees System Fixes, Changes, and Upgrades
Duties may include:
Implements fixes and additional features. Manages and executes installations upgrades and system patches. Analyzes the feasibility of, and develops requirements for, new systems and enhancements to existing systems; ensures the system design fits the needs of the users. Tracks and fully documents changes for functional and business specifications; writes detailed universally understood procedures for permanent records and for use in training. Assists in the preparation of proposals to develop new systems.
E. Assists, Trains, and Develops End-Users
Duties may include:
Provides technical assistance in training, mentoring, and coaching professional and technical staff. May develop training curriculum and conduct formal training sessions covering assigned ERM systems module.
F. Supervisory/Administrative
Duties may include:
Supervises and directs assigned or departmental staff in the management of the assigned SAP module. If assigned, performs supervisory duties including recruiting, hiring, assigning, directing, coaching, training and evaluating the work of lower level staff. Advises manager on problems, issues, performance, and assignments regarding staff. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

- ERM systems such as, but not limited to, SAP, PeopleSoft, Oracle, Baan, and J.D. Edwards.
- ERM software and module configuration.
- Application software including presentation, spreadsheet, and work processing applications.
- Business systems applications in finance, materials management, and/or human resources.
- Methods of developing business process specifications.
- Procedures and methods for testing business functions within ERM systems.
- Principles and practices of producing effective project documentation including business functions and technical ERM systems and processes.
- Principles of public administration, organization, management, business information systems, and practices.
- Principles, practices, and techniques of customer service.
- Customers’ current business processes.
- Time management and organizational skills.

Required Prior Experience:
Two years of progressively responsible full time experience in the field of ERM systems performing configurations, modifications, testing, and implementations within multiple sub-modules.
Required Prior Education:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Management Information Systems, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Industrial Organizational Psychology, Materials Management, or a related field, depending upon the location of the vacancy.
