Job Summary
This classification is primarily responsible for performing many of the tasks in the following areas: Construction Administration, and Construction Inspection. This is the entry-level classification in this series, and is typically the trainee level. Work mainly involves performance of prescribed tasks in predictable order with minimal exceptions to standard procedures.

This class works under immediate supervision, wherein the employee works in the presence of his/her supervisor or in a situation of close control and easy reference. Work assignments are given with explicit instructions and are so routine that few, if any, deviations from established practice are made without checking with the supervisor.

Essential Functions
Construction Administration
Duties may include:
Assist with the coordination of RFI's and submittal requests. Assist with the coordination between construction management consultants, contractors, designers, utility companies, and governmental agencies. May coordinate and arrange for construction surveys and underground utility marking before excavation. Monitor construction schedules for reasonableness and compatibility with contract requirements. Assist in monitoring of contractors to fulfill contractual obligations. Participate in pre-bid, bid opening, and pre-construction for District projects. Assist in the review of construction change orders, RFI's, and submittals requests. Maintain records regarding quality and acceptance of materials used and delivered. Prepare documentation for change orders and contract claims. Assist in the review of permit applications and collect fees. Assist in the preparation of monthly construction progress reports, records, and red-lined drawings. Attend departmental staff meetings to provide field status reports. Attend weekly progress meeting with contractors, designers, consultants, and owners. Assist in the investigation of complaints and maintain records relating to construction projects. Other duties as assigned.
Construction Inspection
Duties may include:
Assist in the inspection of District construction projects. Estimate and analyze quantities of labor and materials utilized in District construction projects. Review and interpret blueprints, schematics, and specifications to verify accuracy. Conduct field reviews of construction work to ensure quality control, conformance to specification, and contract compliance. Prepare daily work reports, field memos, correspondence, sketches on work, and final drawings. Inspect District right-of-way activity and land grading operations performed under District permits. Assist in the collection of sample materials for testing. Assist in final inspections for projects. Other duties as assigned.

Required Prior Experience
One year of construction or field engineering experience, including at least one year of construction inspection of buildings.

A High School diploma or equivalent.
