Route Checker (Part-Time)
Pay Grade:   Grade P-1
FLSA Status:   Non-Exempt
Monthly Salary Range:   $9.89 - $12.64 pr hr

Job Summary

This part-time classification is responsible for recording passenger counts, schedule adherence data and fare media activity on Regional Transit (RT) buses and light rail vehicles (LRVs).

Essential Functions

Under general supervision, accurately record bus and LRV arrival time at designated stops. Record fare activity and number of passengers boarding, number of passengers exiting, and number of passengers remaining on bus and LRV. May be required to enter passenger data into computer system. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Demands

Physical and Mental Requirements:
Work is primarily performed while on RT buses or LRVs and requires the ability to: Sit and/or stand for long periods of time; get to and from scheduled route, possibly in inclement weather; board and exit bus or LRV quickly; maintain concentration.

Knowledge and Abilities

Required Knowledge of:
RT bus and light rail routes is desirable.

Required Ability to:
Follow oral and written instructions.
Communicate daily with Route Check Supervisor.
Communicate clearly in English.
Interface courteously and tactfully with RT employees.
Keep interaction with public to a minimum.
Report to work on time.
Adhere to District’s dress code.
Learn District routes, schedules and fare policies.
Identify stop locations.
Read digital watch and convert to military time.
Record, in writing, arrival time in 24-hour clock (military time).
Record numbers accurately and legibly.
Perform basic arithmetic quickly and accurately.
Perform data entry through designated computer system.
Work a variety of shift hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays.
Work hours based on RT’s needs (minimum hours are not guaranteed).

Minimum QualificationsAny combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Required Prior Education:
High School graduate or equivalent.

Required Prior Experience:
No experience required.

Special Requirements:
Pass Department of Justice (DOJ) background criminal check. Possess a functional digital watch with hour, minute and seconds readily visible.
