Job Summary
This classification is primarily responsible for performing tasks in the following areas: Public Information, Community Relations, and Marketing Services. This is the entry-level classification in this series, and is typically the trainee level. Work mainly involves the review of information, including summarization, analysis, interpretation and re-presentation in a different format.
Supervision
This class works under general supervision, wherein the assigned duties require the exercise of judgment or choice among pre-established actions, sometimes without clear precedents and with concern for the consequences of the action. The employee may or may not work in close proximity to his/her supervisor.

Essential Functions
Duties may include:
Assist in compiling, analyzing and summarizing information. Respond to complaints and requests for information. Maintain accurate and up-to-date files and records. Assists with the coordination of District's public information and marketing programs. Assist with the coordination and implementation of production publications. Assist with the development and administration of marketing presentations. Meet with the public to provide District information. Coordinate public information, marketing, and community outreach programs. Coordinate with external agencies and businesses to publicize District services. Attend and assist with the coordination of special and media events. Other duties as assigned.

Approve and make recommendations of materials written by outside agencies regarding District policies.
Develop presentation materials.
Direct consultants or other staff involved with projects or events,
Draft RFPs for new or renewed vendor contracts.
Help internal and external clients design and produce information media.
Investigate new public information and marketing programs.
Plan, schedule, coordinate, monitor, and perform presentations and special events.
Publish events in internal and external publications and media.
Research and respond to complaints and requests for information.
Schedule internal and external staff to assist in community and special events.
Write copy of newsletters, flyers, brochures, visual displays, advertisements and other printed materials.
Maintain cooperative working relationships with internal staff and external agencies.

Minimum Qualifications — Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Required Prior Experience
One year of experience performing marketing, public relations, promotions, or other related work.
Required Prior Education
A bachelor of science degree in marketing, communications, business, public administration, or closely related field. Six years of additional qualifying experience may substitute for the required education.
License Requirement:
Positions in the classification require the possession of a valid California driver’s license. Eligibility for employment for those who do not meet this requirement due to disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the appointing authority.
