Job Summary
This classification is primarily responsible for performing tasks in the following areas: Supervisory/Administrative; Computer Security; Project Management; Software, Hardware, and Network Support; and Procurement of Hardware and Software. Work mainly involves the gathering and interpreting of data dealing with complex problems and unexpected situations, including recommending solutions. This class typically supervises subordinate staff.
Supervision
Supervision Received: This class receives general direction, typically works from broad policies and toward general objectives, and sets and interprets departmental policy, referring to senior management for adoption and approval. Refers specific matters to superiors only when interpretation or clarification is necessary.
Supervision Exercised: This class typically supervises lower-level personnel.

Essential Functions
A. Supervisory/Administrative
Duties may include:
Supervise, train, coach, evaluate, and discipline staff. Provide day-to-day technical direction and leadership for technical and clerical support staff. Act as liaison between department end users, Information Technology Analysts, contractors, and vendors in analyzing, configuring, and testing software and hardware. Provide technical assistance in training, mentoring, and coaching technical staff. Conduct performance reviews of staff. Develop training curriculum for staff. Other duties as assigned.
B. Computer Security
Duties may include:
Maintain security access to all computer systems for all users. Protect against unauthorized access. Troubleshoot access problems. Maintain security standards and procedures. Other duties as assigned.
C. Project Management
Duties may include:
Develop, coordinate, and implement plans to test business and functional processes. Other duties as assigned.
D. Software, Hardware, and Network Support
Duties may include:
Serve as the primary resource for all Information Technology Analysts; provide solutions to technical and complex problems. Act as a liaison between departments. Direct professional and technical staff. Identify new information system technology opportunities. Develop, coordinate, and implement plans for quality assurance. Other duties as assigned.
E. Procurement of Hardware and Software
Duties may include:
Consult with contractors, consultants, vendors, and support services for new systems and enhancements to existing systems. Conduct special studies and prepare reports on information technology standards, policies, methods, and procedures. Recommend contractor selection; coordinate interaction and activities of contractor/consultant. Review contractor/consultant hours and billings. Monitor and evaluate quality of contractor/consultant services. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications — Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Required Prior Experience:
Four years of experience in the specialized technical discipline, preferably including one year of experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.
Required Prior Education:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Business Information Systems, or closely related field. Six years of additional qualifying experience may substitute for the required education.
